There's a hole in my sidewalk.

I've been reading The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective Teens recently, and it had really changed my life! Actually, right now I am holding it (because I am currently editing my mission statement). Anyway, one of the habits in the book is to be proactive, which means you have to take responsibility for your actions, and you shouldn't let anything, be it people or circumstances, control you.

Anyway, one poem in this book struck me, mainly because it was well-written, and it really has a nice lesson. It really did speak to me, and until now, it is still one of my favorite poems. So without further ado, here is it (credits to www.mhsanctuary.com for the poem - I was too lazy to type it). :D

AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN FIVE SHORT CHAPTERS
by Portia Nelson

I
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost ... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.

II
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

III
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in. It's a habit.
My eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

IV
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

V
I walk down another street.
